Receptive skills are comprised of both reading and listening, both of which are equally important of the English student to continue to grasp the English language. We identified that there are two main purposes for reading and listening: 1. for a specific purpose-listening to directions and 2. for entertainment-pleasure, such as reading a book or watching a movie. When either reading or listening we can employ specific skills that allow us to find/gather information differently. These are predictive skills, specific information, general idea-skimming, detailed information, and deduction form context.
