This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
Teaching beginners is different than teaching non-beginners. The tempo of the class might be slower, especially in the teacher's explanations and instructions. The idea is to have their students be successful - to speak english. Student participation may be requested more so with beginners because the teacher wants to know if his or her students are learning the language. As beginners participate, it is important to acknowledge them and praise - even if their language is incorrect, praise for trying and participating. Support students based on their individual needs in addition to the classroom's. Visuals and gestures often elicit more language. Gestures, in particular, also elicit humor which is enjoyed by learners and can \"break-the-ice\" in moments of uncertainty or struggling to get participation.
