The unit lists many tips for teachers of new classes, large classes, mixed-ability classes, warmers, students' inclination to use their first language, and effectively using listening materials. First lessons require the teacher to establish rapport, getting to know the students, especially to find out their names, backgrounds, and goals for learning English. Teachers shouldn't dive into the lesson without engaging students with a warmer. Students need to get into using English before they are asked to study a new set of language. The unit gives some good suggestions for warmers. Teachers should consider bringing extra materials for fast finishers, or plan ahead other activities the faster ones can do with the same set of materials. This unit addresses a lot of common problems they will certainly encounter in their careers.
