This unit discusses vocabulary and grammar and how to teach them. Vocabulary should be chosen based on frequency of use, teachability, appropriacy to the students and the task being covered. It is important to teach the students vocabulary they will use often as opposed to obscure words that rarely get used. Younger students or beginner courses should initially focus on the basic words the student needs to know to begin communication. Grammar lessons should focus on use, meaning, and spoken/written forms. Grammar lessons should be used in conjunction with vocabulary lessons to help tie it all together for the students.
