This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
When teaching vocabulary, the teacher must choose vocabulary that is appropriate for the students and the task. The teacher must be mindful to teach pronunciation, usage, form, and also grammatical structure to students. The ESA method allows for different lesson plans. A straight arrow ESA lesson would include just one of each component. For example, if the lesson was about different kinds of jobs, the teacher might first show some pictures of different jobs and ask the students what kind of job they see. The study component could be a gap-filling worksheet with a word box. Finally, an Activate component might be an interview with a partner to ask about their family member's jobs. A boomerang lesson goes in the order Engage-Activate-Study-Activate.
