This unit helped me reflect on all the different facets of the English language. As a native English speaker, I tend to think English is a very simple language. Breaking down all the parts of a sentence made me realise what a difficult language it can be for those who are beginners. Forming a sentence seems rather easy as an English speaker, but I can see all the problems the different parts of speech can have for learners. While teaching, I tend to focus on the more everyday aspects of the language, such as which preposition to use, and when to use them. I can see that learners can greatly benefit from learning all aspects of speech, as it will help them formulate their thoughts. The better their understanding of the basics, the easier it will be to perfect their English later on, once they get to a more advanced level. This unit was helpful because it helped me brush up on my basics.
