This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
Managing a classroom well depends on many factors. It depends on class size, student variety, teacher personality, and physical set up to name a few. A good teacher will build, practice, and balance rapport, discipline, and flexibility, which will in turn inspire confidence in the students. When planning lessons it is valuable for the teacher to think about the size of the class and the best seating arrangements for each lesson and for good student to student interaction. No matter what is planned though, it is always optimum to aim to maximize student talk time and to acknowledge student success. Eye contact, appropriate gestures, and using students names, are ways to create rapport, acknowledge students, and maintain an orderly, yet positive, classroom atmosphere.
