Unit 18 covered modals, phrasal verbs, and passive voice. Modal verbs consist of can, could, may, might, shall, should, will, would, must, etc. They are very important because they are used before other verbs, which add meaning to the main verb. It can be used to express different levels of formality. Passive voice is used when we don't want to say who performs the action, when the performer of the action isn't important, and when the performer of the action is not known. There are also three types of relative clauses; independent, dependent, and relative. These clauses are words that contain a subject and a verb. The unit also covered phrasal verbs. There are three types of phrasal verbs; Type 1: Intransitive; Type 2: Transitive separable; and Type 3: Transitive inseparable. Teachers should use these verbs during uncontrolled practice and/or conversation. Some parts of the unit were difficult for me to understand, such as the phrasal verbs. I haven't come across any of the information given in this unit before, and feel that there was too much to cover in such a short unit.
