From watching these lessons, I learned that a teacher's attitude and desire to engage the students plays a huge role in the effectiveness of the lesson. The second lesson was well executed. He began with engaging the students in an activity that got them all speaking English (making a list of animals). He elicited vocabulary by miming action words. He used lots of gestures to help students understand actions. He also did a good job of checking for understanding during the study phase. There students was a lot of student talk time as they did the majority of their work in pairs. His example of the final product before the Activate time helped the students to know what was expected of them, although he could have done a better job of explaining the difference between an imaginary and real animal (but I believe he would note that for the next time he taught). He also did a good job of engaging the students by using their names and calling them.
