This unit covered the teaching of receptive skills. The receptive skills are Reading and Listening, and the Productive skills are Speaking and Writing. There are multiple purposes and motives for using receptive skills. This unit divided them into listening or reading for a purpose and listening or reading for entertainment. There are different skills that come into play with the productive skills, such as skimming for general ideas or scanning for specific information. To make the teaching of productive skills more effective it is important to do things like pre-teaching vocabulary and carefulling selecting texts.
