As a teacher myself, I realise everyday how important lesson planning is. When studying to become a teacher, I often dreaded the countless plannings we had to make. When I was a teacher for some time, I thought I could do without the plannings and rely on my previous experiences to build the lesson as i stood in front of the class. But soon I realised that causes alot of chaos during the lesson, as you are not fully prepared and something is always bound to happen or to go wrong, especially with smartboards and other electronic devices. A good lesson plan is important, and it should not be too elaborate either. Make sure you get the necessary materials, the devices you need are ready to use and you have a quick overview of the structure of your lesson and the timings of each part.
