This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
In this unit I learned that the two productive skills in English language communication are speaking and writing. The purpose of these two skills is essentially the same- they are both needed in order to effecively communicate in English.
In the ESL industry, writing is often seen as a neglected element, but after reading this unit I now know the importance of it in the overall student learning experience. Without proper writing skills (especially in the modern world of electronic communication) an ESL learner will not be able to communicate effectively in English.
When teaching a writing class it is important to guide students towards improving handwriting, spelling, punctuation and creative writing in a more formal and rigid structuralised way. For speaking classes this is less \"set in stone\", and the teacher can provide activities based on both accuracy and fluency in order to ensure that students both understand and can accurately use any previously taught vocabulary or speech.
