Unit 12 focuses on the basic productive skills of speaking and writing, which is a nice follow up to unit 11?s receptive skills. Unit 12 covers handwriting skills, differences between accuracy and fluency, it discusses three categories of speaking activities, as well as ways to get students more involved with a lesson, and it also provides some sample lessons and activities.
I appreciated how the unit briefly touched on accuracy versus fluency. I have worked with a few other English teachers who attempt to let the students be creative, yet they focus too much on accuracy to the point where the students are reluctant to participate for fear of being incorrect. This unit has reassured my own beliefs where sometimes the students need to be accurate, and other times students need to explore the language more freely in their own way in order to make their own connections.
