As an english as first language speaker from Singapore, I'm not considered a native speaker of english. It was thus interesting to see the range and types of tests that prospective employers overseas would need from me. The Cambridge CPE in particular interests me. It has occurred to me that actually, teachers are also constantly being evaluated by the results of their students' tests. This could provide a rather stressful situation. While tests are an inevitable part of life, I feel that they don't measure the intangibles such as the warmth and concern of a good teacher or the love of reading he or she may have sparked in a student. This stress could be especially more prominent in teaching schools where a number of teachers teach the same level of students. When I was in school, teachers were known to make struggling students drop certain subjects as they expected them to obtain poor grades and thus \"spoil\" their records. This is one of the pitfalls of external examinations.
