This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
This unit discussed the productive skills of language: speaking and writing. They are both very different from each other as writing is comparatively difficult task as it requires a great deal of accuracy whereas speaking is more about fluency and lesser accuracy and allows for more creativeness, but both are equally important. I learnt which speaking activities can be used such as controlled and guided activities for accuracy and creative communication for fluency. The unit also included techniques to encourage student interaction and guidelines for choosing creative writing activities. I also learnt that students can face difficulties with handwriting, spelling, layout and punctuation during writing activities which should be addressed. Lastly, the unit discussed games that should be played in an ESL classroom as it is an important way of motivating students and getting them to participate.
