Two very important skills we as teachers should try to incorporate in our lessons are reading and listening skills. Reading and listening do not only appeal to the senses but also involves a number of specialist skills like skimming the material for the general idea, predicting content from a headline or reading between the lines to deduce meaning. Students encounter numerous problems with receptive skills mainly in language. These problems could be avoided by techniques such as choosing interesting topics and tasks to attract the students to pay more attention or exposing them to difficult language prior to the lesson.
