Like the Present tense, the Past tense has four forms similar to the Present tense. The past simple, past continuous, past perfect and past perfect continuous tenses help us to communicate clearly things that have happened in the past. This is important to understand as a teacher because we want students to feel confident to talk about things that have happened in their past and to talk about their lives in a way that people will understand. Learning the different forms of the past tense will be helpful when teaching students how to differentiate between the present and past tenses. Although it can seem complicated, learning these tenses will be helpful for student's future communication and academics.
