This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
This unit teaches some good ideas for conducting the first lesson. The teacher should build a rapport with and between the students to begin with. Introducing games can be used to find out individual student's interests and needs with English. The teacher should also get involved in the games, so the students can learn about their teacher. After building a rapport, teachers can use 'warmer' exercises, such as hangman or tongue twisters.
This unit also teaches ideas to deal with large classes, and classes with students of varying levels of English. Large classes can be split up into pairs/small groups. This will maximize student involvement. Classes with varying English levels can have student's pair up, a stronger English student with a weaker English student.
