This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
To be able to compare the two lesson approaches, for me, was very valuable. The first lesson clearly showed that teacher attitude is imperative. Not using or trying to learn student names proved to be ineffective. Belittling the students stymied student participation. Making the statement that the lesson material was \"easy\" also made the students feel inadequate when they could not understand the term modal auxiliary verb. Lesson two started on the positive with the teacher smiling and showing interest in learning the student's names. Encouragement for answering the questions continued throughout the lesson and during the feedback times student's were allowed to self-correct and peer-correct mistakes.
It would have been effective for me to have seen the videos and completed Unit 10 prior to Unit 9. Lesson planning would have made more sense, especially sequencing the lesson.
