This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
Unit 7 has been very easy and straight-forward to me. I have learned that students need four things with language: exposure, understanding of the meaning, understanding of the construction, and being able to practice and produce it. Also, I thought it was interesting to read that the grammar of a language is the trunk while the vocabulary and functions are the leaves of the tree. This idea helped put things into perspective for me. I also agree that students can understand more than they can use personally, as I struggled with this as well in learning a second language. Since I have this understanding, it can help me help them in learning more. The easiest to teach is going to be the vocab, while the grammar and functions are going to be more difficult. I am a little confused on the section of teaching language functions; I think I am confused on what a function is. Why are only certain words related to this? Such as inviting, agreeing, suggesting etc. However, I learned a lot and am excited to begin practicing.
