This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
When I am teaching a lesson and you ask me which methods is the best? I would like to say it must depend on the age, level of learning and to certain extent, the culture of the student. The role of the teacher is obviously of paramount importance and the experience, expertise, and sensitivity of this key person are all contributory factors to effective learning. As a teacher, I would tend to choose a more eclectic approach where all the factors aforementioned are part of the decision making. I think that it is important for a teacher to adapt whatever approach or method is appropriate to the needs and abilities of the students. A successful teacher would be continuously re-evaluating to determine which method is used in the most efficient way. In summary, all methods have value and the key is to identify the method that resonates most effectively with student and teacher.
