There are three types of materials a teacher can use in class: textbooks, created materials, and authentic materials. Textbooks may be old and outdated, but they have a tried and tested curriculum that makes the teacher's job easier. Teachers should use the textbook as a starting point but should also be willing to make their own plans if the content doesn't resonate with the students. Created materials are materials created by the teacher. This can be good for lower level learners. Authentic materials are materials that were intended for native speakers, such as \"1984\", and can be good for higher level learners.
