In this unit, the factors, techniques, and principles related to teaching productive skills of speaking and writing are examined. The subject of accuracy and fluency are discussed in relation to each of their placement in the Engage, Study, and Activate stages of the ESA teaching model. Accuracy is typically connected to the study phase, focusing on producing correct language, whereas fluency is connected to the activate stage, focusing on experimentation, creativity, flow and effectiveness. Both are equally important to the teaching and learning of speaking and writing.
As a result of learning about the factors, principles and techniques inherent in teaching productive skills, I am now more equipped to create an effective ESA teaching plan using a free creative speaking lesson activity.
