This unit provides information on the different types of testing teachers will use while teaching English as a second/foreign language. It discusses types of testing used for various reasons as students progress through the course and with the language,beginning with placement tests to determine the level of English already known, working into progress tests and diagnostic tests to look for what has been learned and been retained and how the teacher should proceed, and moving into practice tests and external exams for students to test with other sources their level of English language. It is important for us to utilize tests to monitor students' skill advancement and to be aware of any areas that we need to revisit or focus on more as teachers.
