This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
When I was a child I remember learning words from vocabulary lists. As an english as first language learner, it was not difficult to find age and aptitude appropriate lists for me. Later, I stopped needing vocabulary lists as by that time I was reading so much that I picked up words naturally and learnt their meaning in context. Thus, I never had a need for extra vocabulary lists. This was brought to mind because I realise that it would be difficult to select vocabulary lists for adults. The only lists I studied as an adult was SAT vocabulary lists and those did not require you to incorporate them into a larger context but simply to know their meaning. The challenge of teaching adult learners would then be to find higher level vocabulary lists that interest them and that they will use.
