Present tenses are varied and can be broken down into 4 tenses. There is Present Simple Tense, which uses simple subject verb agreement. Present Continuous Tense which uses the verb 'to be' such as 'am' and 'is' in order to modify the tense into something occurring at the continuous moment. Present Perfect Tense which utilizes the verb 'to have' to modify the statement to reflect an something the occurred at a definite point. Finally there's Present Perfect Continuous Tense which utilizes the helping verbs 'to have' and 'to be' to reflect something that has occurred for a duration up to that point in time. Understanding the nuances of these and what is used in each tense is naturally a very critical part of the English language and we as teachers need to understand its nuances.
