I was happy to learn of many different kinds of exams given here. A few more examples, perhaps on how a diagnostic exam would differ from a placement exam would help greatly. I am surprised to see that my own personal observation that the TOEIC exam doesn't measure real English skill isn't just anecdotal. I have met many a high TOEIC scorer who could not string two words together in basic conversation. But I suppose that it's the result of an EFL education focused exclusively on passive, not productive language learning. This chapter has given me clear means however, to genuinely change my exams to avoid exclusively passive learning tendencies, which is quite helpful.
