As an EFL teacher it is important for you to be aware of the many tenses in the English language. Most people believe there to be only 3 main tenses: past, present and future. However, in reality, each tense can be divided into four sub categories equaling a total of 12 tenses. In the present tense you can have 1) Present Simple, 2) Present Perfect, 3) Present Continuous and 4) Present Perfect Continuous. Understanding the structure is vital to helping students be successful of the English language as well as helping them develop patterns in their speech. After introducing and studying each tense, it is important to have the students get involved in appropriate activities during the activate stage to optimize their time practicing each tense. This unit was full of ideas for the activate stage.
