This unit introduced the four basic language skills, namely receptive skills which include reading and listening and productive skills which include speaking and writing. however, the unit focused on Receptive skills only. A number of specialist skills people employ when reading and writing were discussed, some of which are predictive skills, skimming and deduction of context. The unit went further on and discussed some of the problems that come with listening and reading ans suggested a number of techniques to make this easier for students. The techniques are pre-teaching vocabulary and careful selection of texts. Lastly, but not the least, the unit emphasizes that both reading and listening are equally important
