Unit 12 deals with the teaching of the productive skills of speaking and writing, along with the use of games as a useful inclusion at any stage of the lesson. While acknowledging their essential differences, the unit lays emphasis on their equal importance and on the obligation placed on the teacher to create an environment and provide materials that will encourage their students to engage fully in both activities. As always, the unit stresses the required development in each lesson, by means of controlled and guided materials through to more free and creative expression. In this unit I found particularly helpful the ideas/suggestions provided by the \"guidelines for free/creative speaking\" - as an essential reference point in planning any lesson.
