This unit focused on receptive skills, reading and listening. It highlighted the different skills utilized when reading or listening, such as scanning and skimming. It makes sense that these skills will assist new language learners to process and understand in context of reading and listening. I particularly found benefit from the section discussing the problems and solutions relating to teaching receptive skills. It explained how language, pre-teaching, and selection of materials need to be integrated into the lesson. It is my option that building interest, engaging the students, and building a dynamic classroom will enhance student's receptive skills proportionally. As this course progresses, it is becoming more multi-dimensional and shows the true nature and scope of teaching English to non-English speakers.
