When it comes to learning a new language such as its vocabulary and grammar, it is important to bear in mind that a student needs to be exposed to the language and understand the meaning. Additionally, the student needs to know how it's constructed and be able to practice and produce the language the are learning. To be able to teach the language the teacher has to understand there is not a particular rule or structure that is most effective. However, the ESA methods have proven to be most effective depending on the lesson; for example, lessons that focus on vocabulary usually use the straight arrow ESA method which is engage, study, and active. In the other hand, a function base lesson might be most effective with the structure used in the boomerang or patchwork ESA methods.
This unit not only gave me an idea on how to proceed when choosing which steps or activities to use for a lesson that teach a new language but it also showed me that there some methods that are more effective depending on the lesson.
