This unit emphasized teaching speaking and writing, the productive skills. The unit highlights the distinct differences between the two skills. Writing was especially interesting to me, and I can see how it would be one of the most difficult tasks for ESL students to learn. I know a lot of native speakers that STILL struggle with spelling in English, despite being college graduates. It can be a lot to remember. I agree, however, that reading is probably the best way to learn how to spell and write words in this case. Since English isn't a phonetic language, it's often easiest to just see and read the word in context to understand its spelling and meaning.
