This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
Textbooks do not always have all the information a teacher may need. A teacher can use other materials such as authentic materials and created materials. Authentic materials can consist of many things such as songs, newspaper clippings or menus. Creative materials can consist of activities pieced together by the teacher such as cross-words, word searches or role-play games. When using textbooks, it is best to keep in mind that it is better not to follow everything exactly as the book says. Students can become uninterested and know what to expect if you only follow the book. Having a lesson where the teacher alters or creates an activity to go along with the book will help to cater to a specific group of students and can help liven up the classroom. Text books do have an arrange of lessons, but not all lessons cater to all students.
