Placement, diagnostic, progress and external practice tests are all vital and part of a student's experience in school. I think it is vital that the teacher administering the tests provide an encouraging and motivating setting in hopes of decreasing the possible stress and nervousness in a new student. Progress tests are required at various points in the course as this feedback helps the teacher reevaluate teaching strategies and back track to reteach certain units if many students are struggling. Practice tests are important before individuals take the official external exam as it sets the tone and expectations. This helps the student articulate and show what they know instead of being too nervous and forgetting their common skills and knowledge.
