Unit 8 focused on the productive skills speaking and writing.
When teaching a speaking lesson, fluency and accuracy should both be practiced. During the engage phase, elicitation gets the students thinking in English. The Study phase is more accuracy focused. Students will learn new words and sentence structure. During the Activate phase, students will practice their fluency. Pair and group work will allow the students to freely speak, with low stress and high talk time.
Writing lessons also focus on fluency and accuracy. Accuracy is very important because misspelled words often are portrayed as results of bad education. Creative writing lessons can focus around things like comics and postcards to be kept interesting. These lessons start with discussion of the writing prompt, introduction of the lesson material, and then the students producing their own material.
