Modal auxiliary verbs are used for ideas such as obligation, permission, advice, possibility or ability. Modal auxiliary verbs are: can, could, may, might, shall, should, will, would, must and have to. These verbs don't change in form according to the person.
The two voices in English are the active voice and the passive voice. In the sentence: \"john cooked dinner yesterday.\", the focus is on the agent (John). Whereas in the passive voice the focus is also on the subject (dinner): \"dinner was cooked by John the day before.\" In the passive voice the verb is formed with the auxiliary 'be' + past participle. The tense of the auxiliary will vary depending on the tense used in the active voice.
