This unit covered the productive skills, speaking and writing. These two skills are important in that they are what students will use to express themselves in English. Productive skills are somewhat easier to teach in that direct feedback can be given based on what students say or write. (This is as opposed to reading and listening skills.) It is useful to note that how a students native language is structured can influence how they speak and write in English due to structural differences and biases between the two. This is where cultural sensitivity can be extremely useful in order to help students make corrections in their learning when they encounter barriers.
