Unit 5 yet again showcased the importance of teacher-student interaction. There are many factors within a classroom that contribute to the effectiveness of the learning environment, these range from simple aspects such as eye contact to more obvious components of the class such as desk organization. It is very important for teachers to be able to hold the attention of the class in an appropriate way. Personally, when in a learning environment, I believe the balance between teacher and student talk time to be one of the most important factors to be aware of. Too little teacher interaction can lead to loss of focus, confusion, and/or the students speaking in their native language. As well, an overload of teacher instruction and presentation can lead to the same outcomes. Overall, teachers need to be aware of how their classroom affects their students' learning whether it is establishing rapport at the beginning of the year or maintaining discipline throughout the year.
