This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
As someone whose worked in formal and informal education settings for 20 years the information in this chapter wasn't particularly new, but it was an excellent reminder. Teachers need to be intentional in how they arrange the classroom, structure activities, and motivate students. The educational space has an impact on how students will interact and learn. For example, a classroom arranged in rows is more traditional, makes it easier for teachers to present and observe each student individually. However, the formality of the structure limits student interaction with each other and sets behavioral expectations likely to reflect traditional education. Horshoes, tables, or circle arrangements feel more informal, and ideally this relaxed education environment prompts more student interaction and peer learning. As an educator I need to remember to think of these factors when organizing a class that will meet the objectives for the students and program.
