This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
Unit 15 covered the topics of testing and evaluation. The unit stressed the importance of continuously evaluating students, not only for the benefit of the teacher, but also as a means to give students a way to see their own progress. This unit explained the different types of tests ranging from general placement exams to the more formal testing found at the end of a unit or term. Unit 15 also provided a sample placement test that showed possible questions that can be asked and a possible format that can be used when giving such an exam. The unit then covered the various general external exams that are commonly used and accepted by most universities around the world. My largest take away from this unit is just knowing the proper time to use certain tests and to always have a mindset of constant evaluation, not only to help figure out what areas of language learning need more attention for a particular class, but to also allow the students to see the progress they are making and to provide that as motivation.
