This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
I felt that in this unit of the course I have learnt the most about grammar. It's true, pronounciation is often overlooked in the learning and teaching of English. I had a colleague say to me that we should not worry too much about the students pronounciation because everyon has different accents, but that we should focus more on grammar. However, his statement contradicts with this unit and the true claims that people for the most part when learning a new language want to learn how to pronounce words probably. The phonemic alphabet was like a foreign language to me, but now I am very interested in committing it to memory and when I am more comfortable with it, in using it in my future classes. I like that it is international and how most languages can use it because it is based on sounds. I also appreciate how the symbols are not just roman alphabet symbols so learners of other languages that do not have a roman alphabet system can feel a bit more comfortable with approaching it.
