Unit 12 is about teaching productive skills; speaking and writing. Both these skills are used for the purpose of communication, although they may be substantially different. There is equal importance of accuracy and fluency in speaking skills. Creative Communication, Controlled Activity and Guided Activity make up the three basic types of speaking activity. How to encourage students to speak and interactive techniques were given in detail. Guidelines and a typical creative speaking lesson were shown. Creative Skills, Handwriting , Spelling, Layout and Punctuation make up Writing Skills. I've learnt that the written text has a number of difference which separates it from speaking (e.g. Writing is more formal with less contractions.), we speak because we want something (a need) or to achieve something (a desire). Accuracy relates to the correct use of grammar and vocabulary while fluency relates to our ability to continue speaking without any interruption.
