This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
1. Overview of Unit 12
Unit 12 deals with the productive skills, speaking and writing, stating that writing is the most neglected skill in the TEFL world. The difference between accuracy activities and fluency activities is explained, then the controlled accuracy activity, the guided accuracy activity and fluency based activity described. Reasons why students can seem reluctant to speak are mentioned as well as techniques to encourage interaction. An example of and guidelines for a typical free/creative speaking activity lesson are given. The aspects of writing skills are discussed and an example of a typical writing activity lesson given.
2. What I learnt
I am learning a lot from the practical examples in giving a typical ESA lesson, whether it be a typical creative writing or a creative speaking activity lesson.
Using game activities in a language lesson is a new concept for me, worthwhile trying to incorporate in my real life TEFL lessons.
