Conditionals tense and reported speech are probability one of the trickiest concept for many intermediate students. Although Latin based languages have similar rules, non-Europeans students struggle more to get the correct form. Indeed, in their mother tongue the grammar is usually simpler so there is no direct way for them to relate to a familiar set of rules. That's why as teachers we have to be patient and understand that it takes many times and practices for those students to be able to master this part. However once students grasp those concepts they are proud of themselves and are able to understand and convey richer ideas.
