This unit talked about the receptive skills of language learning, namely reading and listening. It talked about WHY we read and listen as well as HOW we read and listen. It also talked about the specialist skills that readers use to foster understanding of a text, and then it mentioned some potential problems that must be addressed in order to promote greater interest and comprehension. In addition, it provided a patchwork lesson plan using the famous singer and actor Elvis Presley as an example. Lastly, it provided a lesson plan on making comparisons with accompanying exercises. I learned a more about how to employ a patchwork lesson plan, and interestingly enough, some of the differences between American English and British English, which I, as an American need to be aware of when teaching students who learn British English in school.
