In this unit, pronunciation and phonology are introduced and explained in detail. Pronunciation is one of the most important aspects of English learning, but it is usually neglected due to the difficulty of learning and teaching. Compared to written scripts and texts, pronunciation is more elusive, especially the intonation and stress, even lots of native English speakers have no clear understanding or feeling on the variety of the intonation patterns. The unit uses the following sentence, \"He didn't mean to kick that dog\" to analyze different meanings by stressing different words. This is an excellent example for the students to understand the effect of stress.
