This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
Productive skills can be broken down into two groups- speaking skills and writing skills. Writing skills may be easy to neglect as a teacher may not want to spend class time on quiet activities such as writing. However, if writing is saved for homework activities, it is likely to not be completed by students and therefore the skill is not developed. Writing skills should be built into the lesson plan and can be coupled with speaking skill activities. Working on both speaking and writing skills will develop fluency and accuracy which are both equally important. Speaking requires fluency as there is less time to think about what you are going to say and formulate a sentence before you say it. Writing requires more accuracy as is it not as easy to clarify meaning from a written paper as it is when you are speaking to someone.
