The unit focuses on the materials used for the class. Such as, course books or authentic materials vs teacher created materials. Some problems with authentic materials and course books are that they aren't always geared towards the students level, interests and are often out of date. They can also make teachers to dependent on them and less creative towards student needs. However, they also are real thereby motivating students and boosting confidence when understood; as well as, providing a well balanced syllabus. Created materials are great for focusing on the specif needs of the students, grading to there levels and being used to either omit, replace, supplement or adapt course materials.
