This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
This section took me significantly longer to understand, but it is one of the most useful lessons to understand and integrate as an ESL teacher. Pronunciation is so important and I have been wanting to learn more about how to improve my students pronunciation. Intonation is generally considered to be a variation in volume and pitch in a whole sentence. Intonation typically goes in the pattern rise/fall, unless the speaker is surprised or is looking for an answer. Stress helps to understand the emphasis of the sentence. I can now see why sometimes non-native speakers are speaking English correctly, but I can't understand the meaning of what they are saying. Intonation and stress are to blame. The mechanics of speech are so technical and specific, it's hard to understand them without physically making the sounds.
